Tim’s Mom here with your Announcements from Outside the Gate.  Each week, here and on streaming community radio, I update you on the upcoming weekend’s Themes and Special Events for Patrons at your Festival, and others around the world for the weekend of March 24 – 25, 2018


It’s Brewfest at the Arizona Renaissance Festival (, in Apache Junction, Arizona, and Saturday is Deaf Awareness Day.

Raise your glasses and Toast to Celebrate 30 Years of Cheers! Sample craft brews in the Village Green, 12pm to 4pm.

Saturday: Visit KMLE On Site Live! 10:00am – 12:00pm

Sunday: Visit Fitz On Site Live! 12pm – 2pm

It’s Jousting Tournament Weekend at the Sherwood Forest Faire (, in McDade, Texas.

Sherwood Forest Faire features two jousting tournaments, held on Weekend 4 and Weekend 7. Bold knights shall compete for gold and glory upon the field of Sherwood’s Jousting Arena until every one of over 120 lances hath been shattered!

Knights from the New Riders of the Golden Age and several other troupes will tilt for gold and glory at these events. Also all skills challenges will be set aside save for FULL CONTACT JOUSTING, so the jousting events are bound to run longer than they do on a regular faire day. This champion shall be showered with favors and a cash purse from the King’s own coffers.



The Bay Area Renaissance Festival (, in Tampa, Florida, brings its 40th season to a close with Festival Friday on the 23rd, and High Seas Adventure through the weekend.  It’s also Deaf Awareness Weekend, so be ready for finger-dancers at stages and shows marked  on the broadsheet.

12:30: Race for the Rattle – Saturday Only! Parents, rally your crawlers! In this adorable race babies crawl to the finish line in hopes of winning an exciting prize for the whole family. Participants also receive a FREE T-Shirt!

3:00: Tattoo Competition Show us your best ink! Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best Color, Best Black & Gray, Best Overall, Worst

Time TBA: Pirate Peg Leg Relay Race Pirates are divided into two teams. One member from each team puts on a peg leg and race to the finish line and back to pass the peg leg to the next team member. The first team whose members all complete the race are declared the winners.


The Florida Renaissance Festival (, in Deerfield Beach, Florida, brings its 26th season to a close with Witches, Warlocks, and All About Harry Potter.

Expecto Patronum! Bring on your baddest Patronus and chase away pesky dementors during this final themed weekend! Only the most magical witches and wizards in the village can conquer that which should not be mentioned! Wingardium Leviosa your butt off the couch as you won’t want to miss out on this most magical weekend. Muggles are welcome!



Alabama Medieval Fantasy Festival (, in Greenville, Alabama, celebrating its 2nd season, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

An informative, fun , educational and professional interactive, entertainment experience that is unplugged from today’s high stress rat race. The moment you step through the gates of the Alabama Medieval Fantasy Festival and into the Mythical Kingdom of Dragon Croft,the technological, digital addicted, 21st Century life as you know it starts to vanish into the cool wooded landscape and your transition to the year 815, begins.Although we take a broad sweep of history embracing from Vikings to King Arthur and from Robin Hood through Queen Elizabeth or about 700 – 1600 AD, our event is based in the 800’s. This Festival will be held twice a year for a full 5 weeks each. Entertainment, education and pageantry prevail as history lives and breathes along with hundreds of costumed characters re-creating an 9th Century European Marketplace. The Kingdom Of Dragon Croft is nestled among the forests and rolling hills and meadows, of a 30+-acre site just off Interstate 65 in beautiful, Greenville, Alabama. that will be complete with merchants aplenty, castles, cottages, kitchens and pubs, filled with activities, music, comedy and theater, food and drink, fine hand-made arts and crafts, artisan demonstrations, games and rides

ALMFF is a permanent Renaissance faire site in central Alabama. The festival is March 23, 24 & 25, 2018. Tickets: $10 Adult, $5 kids, under 6 free


Grand Lake Renaissance Festival, (, in Vinita, Oklahoma, celebrating its 4th season this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Step back to 1540 Queensferry, Scotland and help the villagers celebrate the Royal Coronation of Queen Marie de Guise, wife of James V.


Indiana Pirate Festival (, in Mishiwaka, Indiana, celebrating its 4th season.

Saturday Events: 10am to 6pm  Pirate Ball*: 8pm to Midnight

“Avast me hearties! Be sure to attend the 4th Annual Indiana Pirate Festival, at the Historic BK Club in Mishawaka, IN. The event is filled with fun and educational things to see and do for the whole family!

During the Day, the Indiana Pirate Festival has shows, vendors, and demonstrations!

We also have a separately ticketed 21-and-over evening event. On Saturday evening there is Pirate’s Ball with live music and dancing!

Kern County Scottish Games (, in Bakersfield, California, celebrating its 23rd year.

The Kern County Scottish Society was established in July 1971. The Society is a non-profit organization formed to promote the rich Scottish heritage and cultural traditions in Kern County. Some of these traditions include: The Highland Games and Gathering (including the Ceilidh), The Celtic Music Festival, Highland and Scottish Country Dancing, Genealogy, Piping and Drumming, Tartans, Highland Dress, High Tea, Robbie Burns’ Supper, Gaelic, the native language of the Highland and Islands.


Lompoc Renaissance Festival (, in Escondido, California.

Welcome to the second visitation of His Excellency, The Marquis of Gascony to the Shire of Lompoc. He has come to pay us a visit, and invites you to come join with him!  To pay homage to His Excellency, the faire is filled with vendors of strange and fascinating wares, lively entertainers, and the encampments of the many Guilds who are visiting our beautiful village.


Magickal Marketplace & Psychic Faire (, in Nashua, New Hampshire, celebrating its seventh season, this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Magickal Marketplace & Psychic Faire features dozens of vendors and psychic readers, live entertainment, informative classes, and much more fun for the whole family.



Badin Celtic Festival (, in Badin, North Carolina, celebrating its second season on Saturday.

Are you ready? This is the second, annual, Badin Celtic Festival put on by Better Badin and sponsored by community partner Uwharrie Bank.

Come join us in celebrating Celtic culture on March 24th, 2018 in the historic town of Badin, NC!

This is a much anticipated event! We are getting non-stop calls from everyone wanting to be in the know!

Northwest Florida Renaissance Faire (, in Panama City, Florida, celebrating its 4th season on Saturday.

Renaissance & Cultural Faire has Medieval Europe, fantasy, Larping, belly dancers, medieval reenactors, cultural villages, food, vendors , entertainment, singers and a lot more ! General admission for adults 15 and older is 5 $ at the gate or you can purchase a ticket at 850-252-3821. Admission for children is one non perishable food item which will be donated to community food closets.



Robin Hood’s Faire, Saturday & Sunday, in Southbridge, Massachusetts

Who: Performers of all experience levels from ages 16 and up. Experience not required. We will train the right candidates.

Virginia Renaissance Faire, Saturday, in Fredricksburg, Virgina


Festival Info:,  May 12 – June 10, 2018, in Spotsylvania, Virginia

Auditions for the 2018 Virginia Renaissance Faire will be held Saturday, March 24 from 11 am until 3 pm at the Salem Church Branch Library in the theater room.

The Library is located at 2607 Salem Church Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407.

Prepare a short monologue, story similar performance piece. If you have any special skills (juggling, magic, musical instrument, period craft) come prepared to demonstrate. There will be some improv exercises as well so dress to move.

This is the 17th season of the faire and we welcome everyone to try out for the cast. All training is provided although some experience in theater is helpful, but not required. There are no paid parts. All cast positions are volunteer.

STUDENTS: You can receive community service credits for all time spent with the faire as cast, crew or staff.

You will be notified that day if accepted to the cast. Staff will be on hand to help you with costume ideas and explain more about the faire and your role therein.

Auditions are open to ALL ages, although minors (under 16) must have a parent of guardian on site for all rehearsals and performances. This is a wonderful family activity and there are myriad non-cast opportunities for those who would like to be involved but not part of the acting contingent.
